Lorraine Lowe is a Townsville-based artist who tells stories through colour, pattern and paint.

Working from photographs, including shared and vintage images, Lowe transforms familiar faces, places and moments into vibrant contemporary artworks.

Her practice moves between modern impressionist portraiture in acrylic, printed works on fabric and paper, and loosely painted, impasto oil paintings of interiors and architecture. The subject and story determine the medium.

Women and their stories have become an important focus of Lowe's practice.

Lowe's distinctive use of colour, layers and pattern is informed by almost 30 years as a quiltmaker, textile artist and designer. She completed a Diploma of Visual Arts in 2026, expanding her practice across painting, drawing, printmaking, sculpture and textiles.

Lowe's work has been selected as a finalist in the Percival's Animal Portrait section, the Du Rietz Awards and The Agency Still Life Prize. Her work is held in private collections and exhibited at Art at Jezzine Gallery in Townsville, with work also available at Hinchinbrook Gallery in Ingham.

Lowe is looking forward to developing fabric and textile collections for patchwork and clothing, as well as licensing her artwork for surface design.
